Ganahl Lumber – Los Alamitos
Ganahl Lumber’s Los Alamitos location, the second highest grossing store, required an update. The existing concrete structure, built in 1998, no longer reflected Ganahl’s brand or met its spatial needs. Due to limited space, the architect faced a dual challenge: maximizing merchandise within the existing square footage while improving volume, light, and the overall shopping experience.
The renovation took place in the fully-operational store, requiring meticulous construction with 15 phases over 14-16 months. The redesign created a more efficient layout, optimizing the use of the existing concrete shell. Opening up the sales office ceilings increased height and volume, while new windows brought in natural light and outside views.
The interior received fresh finishes and materials, including reclaimed oak on the front desk, and a distinctive red and grey color scheme, aligning with Ganahl’s brand identity. A new graphics program incorporated historical photos from Ganahl’s archives and local museums, adding a sense of place and time. The exterior was transformed with a contemporary façade, layered colors, and a striking entrance canopy. Landscaping and additional parking spaces completed the exterior redesign.
